Toyota Camry vs Corolla: Performance

The beauty of both the Toyota Camry and the Toyota Corolla is that both offer multiple, powerful engines as part of their makeup. In the Toyota Camry, you’ll have more options in terms of engine output, though the types of engines don’t differ much from each other.

Toyota Camry engines:

• 2.5-L Dynamic Force 4-Cylinder: Generates up to 206 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque.
• Hybrid 2.5-L Dynamic Force 4-Cylinder: Produces 176 horsepower and 163 lb-ft of torque.
• 3.5-L V6: Generates 301 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque.

Toyota Corolla engines:

• 1.8-L 4-Cylinder: Generates 139 horsepower and 126 lb-ft of torque.
• 1.8-L 4-Cylinder (found in the hybrid model): Amasses 121 horsepower and 105 lb-ft of torque.
• 2.0-L 4-Cylinder: Produces 169 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque.  

As you can see, both vehicles will give you great engine power. However, if performance is your thing, you’ll want to take a closer look at the Camry.

Camry vs Corolla: MPG

In both the Toyota Camry and the Toyota Corolla, you can sustain long trips thanks to amazing fuel efficiency. In the Camry, drivers will get up to an EPA-estimated 28 city/39 highway/32 combined MPG in its gas models, and up to an EPA-estimated 51 city/53 highway/52 combined MPG in its hybrid models.¹

If you opt for one of the Corolla gas trims, you can get slightly more MPG than you would in the Camry. In the Corolla gas trims, drivers can get an EPA-estimated 31 city/40 highway/34 combined MPG. The Corolla hybrid model also gets slightly better city mileage than the Camry models, as you’ll see. The Toyota Corolla Hybrid LE can produce an EPA-estimated 53 city/52 highway/52 combined MPG.²

Trim Levels in the Camry and Corolla

You’re a driver who loves to have options. In the Camry and the Corolla, you’ll be given multiple trim levels to choose from, so your options are far from limited. The biggest difference between the Camry and the Corolla in this realm is that the Camry offers a few more hybrid options. The Camry features the LE Hybrid, SE Hybrid, XLE Hybrid, and XSE Hybrid.

The Corolla, on the other hand, only offers the LE Hybrid. As far as the gas models are concerned, they are fairly similar in both vehicles, with a few exceptions.
